Africa Ewaka: The Heartbeat of Home

Africa Ewaka Children with our Guests

In 2024, when our guests from the Nations joined us for a mission trip through the vibrant landscape of Uganda, we didn’t just visit projects, we visited family. One of the most profound stops on that journey was a place called Africa Ewaka.

In the local language, Ewaka means “Home.” It is a simple word, but for the 80 children who live there, it represents the world.

A Sanctuary for 80 Souls

Led by the dedicated leadership of Gilbert and his team, Africa Ewaka is a bustling sanctuary of hope. The home is filled with children across all age brackets from the wide-eyed toddlers taking their first steps to the teenagers beginning to dream of their future careers.

During our 2024 mission, our guests saw firsthand that Gilbert doesn’t just run an institution; he fosters a family. Despite the different backgrounds and ages of these 80 children, there is a unified spirit of belonging. The “sting” of being fatherless has been replaced by the warmth of a community that says, “You are home now.”

Bridging the Gap: From Ewaka to CityGates

The impact of Africa Ewaka extends far beyond the walls of the orphanage. One of the most beautiful sights our international guests witnessed was the integration of these children into our family church, CityGates Ministries.

We believe that every child needs a roof over their head, but they also need a spiritual foundation beneath their feet. By “plugging” these children into CityGates, we have ensured they are growing up surrounded by mentors, spiritual parents, and a wider community of believers. On any given Sunday, you will find the children of Ewaka right in the heart of the congregation worshipping, learning, and realizing that they belong to a global family that stretches far beyond Gaba.

To Our Guests from the Nations: Your Legacy

To our friends who traveled with us in 2024: when you visited and played with these children, when you shared meals with Gilbert’s team, and when you prayed over the rooms at Africa Ewaka, you were planting seeds in fertile ground.

Africa Ewaka remains a beacon of what happens when a local vision meets a global mandate. It is proof that when we work together, we can create a home where there was once a void.
