The Stories of Carlton and Martha

Carlton & Martha at school

1. Carlton: The Brilliance Behind the Barrier

Carlton is one of the brightest minds at St. Miriam Secondary School. A natural leader and top-tier student, his academic journey has been a series of “starts and stops.” While his uncle works hard to support him, the reality of the economy means there is often a gap.

Too many times, Carlton has watched his peers enter the exam hall while he is pulled aside because a tuition balance remains. This year, the stakes are higher than ever: Carlton is sitting his Senior 6 exams. These are the “make or break” papers for his entire future. Our goal is to ensure that a brilliant mind like the Carlton’s isn’t silenced by a missing fees receipt. Our prayer is that we bridge that gap so he can graduate as the giant he is meant to be this year.

2. Martha: From Flight to Forgiveness

Sometimes the “sting” isn’t financial; it’s emotional. Martha was at a breaking point, overwhelmed by excessive chores and feeling unloved by her stepmother. She had decided she wouldn’t go home again, a choice that often leads young girls into extreme danger.

On the very day she planned to leave, Hillary, Mary, and Evelyn conducted a mentorship session at her school on “Obedience and Honor.” Tearfully, Martha asked: “How can I obey a mother who does not love me?” Through counseling and the truth of Christ, the team spoke to her about the power of forgiveness not because the situation was fair, but because her soul deserved to be free. After prayer, Martha found the strength to stay. Today, she is still in school, navigating her home life with a new perspective and the support of a team that sees her.

The Two Wings of Our Work: Provision & Mentorship

These stories represent the heart of Graced To The Nations:

  • The School Supply Gap (Provision): We have seen a child’s posture change the moment they receive a crisp uniform. Supplies are the “armor” of a student. For Carlton, this provision will mean the difference between an empty desk and a finished exam.
  • Setting Giants Free (Mentorship): While supplies equip the hands, mentorship targets the heart. For Martha, it meant replacing the lie that she was alone with the truth that she is chosen. We teach these students that they are not victims of their past, but architects of a God-given future.

Our Vision for Uganda

By bridging the supply gap and providing consistent mentorship, we ensure the students of Busabala and St. Miriam and many more schools don’t just graduate but instead they emerge.

To our global “1,000 Donors,” know that your support will be buying more than uniforms. You are funding the “Armor of Giants.” You are keeping Carlton in his exams and keeping Martha safe in her home. You are telling a generation of a Nations student that the world is waiting for their leadership.
